🎁 Bite-Sized Sundays: My Thanksgiving game plan (printable)

Happy Sunday, Friends.

The hard part of Thanksgiving isn't any one dish. It's getting all of them hot and on the table at the same time, with one oven and a turkey that hogs it for hours.

The trick is doing most of the work in the weeks and days before, so on Thursday you’re roasting the turkey and finishing what you’ve already prepped. My planner below lays it out step by step.

These are the four dishes we never skip at our table. What are yours? Hit reply, I'd love to know.

The turkey
Dry Brine Turkey
The easiest way I know to a beautiful, juicy bird.

The potatoes
Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes
Steaming is the secret.

The stuffing
Sourdough Stuffing
Sourdough instead of plain white bread adds so much more flavor.

Make it ahead
Cranberry Orange Relish
No cooking, and you can make it well in advance.

Bite-Sized Picks

  • Make apple crisp instead of pie this year. My family asks for my Apple Crisp every holiday, and it's much easier.
  • Blend your soup right in the pot. A Braun immersion blender means no ladling hot soup into a blender in batches, and one less thing to wash.
  • Make 20 minutes for yourself non-negotiable. Before the house fills up, take a walk, take a long shower or sit with a cup of coffee and the door closed. The turkey won't miss you.
  • Stock up on glass containers before Thursday. My Rubbermaid Brilliance containers have lids that don't leak, and you can see what's inside when the fridge is packed with make-ahead dishes.

Hey there, On restaurant menus, I almost always skip pasta dishes because pasta night at home is one of my favorite things. The ingredients are simple and economical, and it tastes every bit as good as what you'd order out. These five are as good as any restaurant's, and you can make every one of them. Start hereGarlic Parmesan Chicken PastaI love that this one tastes so decadent without having to go overboard with cream and butter. For steak nightSteak PastaButter-basted ribeye over penne in...

Hey there, October's most-saved recipes show you were getting serious about Thanksgiving prep - that Lard Pie Crust, Turkey Gravy without Drippings, and Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes are going straight into your holiday game plan. But you also saved the soups and savory pies (Chicken Pot Pie and Tomato Bisque) that make weeknight dinners feel manageable when the temperature drops, and that Oven Roasted Crispy Pork Belly (#1 for the second month in a row) because it's always good to remember we...

Hey there, Halloween has been different in every neighborhood we've lived in. In our current house, we get a couple hundred trick-or-treaters, so we buy those giant bags of candy at Costco and still usually run out. It's expensive, but worth it for the big smiles and great costumes. Since we spend most of the night at the front door, dinner has to take care of itself. That's a great job for the slow cooker. My pick is Slow Cooker Chicken Enchiladas (video below). You layer the tortillas with...
